Why is a GT220 1GB slower than an Radeon 4870 512MB even though the 220 has more memory?

I am noob.|||It's a common misconception that more memory a card has the faster it is. And that's simply incorrect. The type of GPU, the memory interface, and type of RAM are all bigger factors. For example a GeForce 8800GT with 512 MB of RAM is nearly twice as fast as the GeForce 9500 GT with 1 GB of RAM. Because the 8800GT has a G92 core which is much faster than the scaled down G96 core in the in the 9500 GT. However people see the higher number and more RAM and just automatically assume it's the faster card. These people are sadly mistaken.|||its because its less powerful, even if it has more memory it doesn't have enough omph to drive it

the 4870 has 115.2 GB/s of GDDR5 memory bandwidth, the GT 220 only has 25.3 GB/s of GDDR3 memory bandwidth

i recommend getting a HD 6870 (twice as fast as HD 4870) or HD 6970 (nearly three time as fast) if you want better performance|||Obviously GT220 is a low end card, compared to 4870 is high end card.

Amount of memory does not determine the performance.|||its the gpu cores, memory really only makes a difference in resolution settings.
